Commander decorates 83 personnel with medals for gallantry in North East

The Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Maj-Gen. Christopher Musa, has decorated 83 officers and men of the Nigerian Army and other security personnel with medals for gallantry in the Northeast.

The recipients are from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Navy, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Correctional Service, Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Civil Defense and the Civilian JTF.

They were decorated at the weekend during a parade to mark Nigeria’s 62nd Independence anniversary, at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno State.

“Today, we are celebrating our independence anniversary by honouring troops of OPHK, paramilitary, members of the media and civilians,” he said.

He noted that the troops and other security agencies are building a nation where peace and justice reigns. He also congratulated the medalists on the milestone of the anniversary.

He stressed that joint counter-terrorism operations will end all forms of insecurity in the Northeast.

Musa said operations will restore law and order and extinguish all acts of terrorism and criminality through kinetic and non-kinetic approaches.

He disclosed that operations are being conducted in Sambisa Forest, the Timbuktu Triangle and Mandara Mountains, with a view to protecting life and property.

On rescue operations by troops, he said: “Over 60,300 communities and captives were liberated and freed from the forest and Lake Chad region.
