The bridge, located in Gayama village of Donga Local Council, which links the neighbouring Kurmi Council, reportedly caved in on Tuesday night following a heavy downpour that lasted for several hours.
Apart from halting business activities, vehicular movements to and fro Kurmi council were distorted, forcing travellers to trek several kilometers before gaining access to either of the two councils.
The bridge, which has finally bowed to the water pressure, was observed to have long been distressed, calling the attention of the authority concerned.
Residents of the affected communities who spoke with The Guardian via telephone said the situation has impacted negatively on the two councils.
They called for the authorities to come to their aid as they cannot access Jalingo, the state capital and the nearby Bali Local Council.
Also, the council caretaker chairman, Nicodemus Ali, called for urgent intervention, stressing that vehicles can no longer come in and out of the area, due to the damage to the bridge.
