Commissioner pledges to make Akwa Ibom foremost tourist destination

New Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Anieti Udofia, has affirmed his commitment to making the state a foremost tourist destination in the country, in keeping with the mandate of Governor Umo Eno. He also thanked the governor for demonstrating his commitment to the state’s tourism industry.

The commissioner spoke during his visit to the equipment warehouse of the Equatorial Parks and Premises, as part of a facility tour of tourist sites in the state.

As a demonstration of his commitment, Udofia disclosed that the governor had approved the release of funds to Equatorial Parks and Premises for the purchase of equipment to maintain the landscape of Ibom Golf Resort, Unity Park, Ibom Plaza and Ikot Ekpene Plaza, expressing deep appreciation to the Eno-led government for its commitment to the development of tourism in the state.

The commissioner, who was taken around the equipment warehouse by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Equatorial Parks and Premises Limited, Mr. Emmanuel Ekong, said the warehouse had numerous machine parts to service and sharpen their machines and even those of other companies, like Julius Berger, and thanked the government for approving funds for the purchase of new equipment, as the ones in use were becoming obsolete.  At Marina Resort, Ekong drew the attention of the commissioner to the crack at the jetty and requested urgent repairs to keep the Golf Course in good condition for golfers.

In his response, Udofia warned that the government would not tolerate the defacing of the plaza with illegal trading at unauthorised locations, urging the management of the plaza, led by its Chairman, Mr Edidiong Vincent, to ensure compliance with the government directives to keep the vicinity neat and beautiful as a foremost tourist site in the state.
