Committee begins screening for 24 APC Assembly aspirants in Enugu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly Screening Committee for Enugu State on Monday began screening for 24 aspirants shortlisted by the party for the state constituency seats.

Chairman of the Committee, Lucky Porki, said at a press briefing at the state secretariat of the party in Enugu, that the committee would conduct the exercise in accordance with the constitutions of the country, that of the party and the electoral guidelines.

He commended  what he described as “exemplary display of consensus-building to ensure that peace and party loyalty reign supreme in the state”, stressing that the model had made the Committee’s assignment easier.

“Indeed, we recommend the Enugu State formula to other state chapters of our party as a virtue worthy of emulation.This has made our job easier because we will deal with 24 aspirants only”, he stated.

Porki, stated that the Committee was put up by the party’s National Secretariat following the  expiration of the time for the submission of Expression of Interest Form and Nomination Form, adding that only 24 aspirants indicated interests for the 24 State Constituency seats.

“Nevertheless, we will thoroughly screen them – their records and credentials – to ensure that they are qualified to serve the people of Enugu State in the capacity that they aspire to.

“Although only 24 aspirants indicated interest by submitting their forms, the due process for the election of candidates will still be strictly applied in accordance with the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act, and our party’s Constitution and Guidelines”, he stated

Porki, who was flanked by other members of the committee, said that after after the work  of the Screening Committee, the Appeals Committee would seat over any grievances or petitions arising therefrom.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Peter Mbah for the level of governance that has elevated Enugu’s infrastructure and ensured peace in the state.

He stated that the governor’s achievements was responsible for the level of acceptance and members the APC was enjoying in the state.

Receiving the Committee members, State Chairman of the party, Martin Chukwunwike, said that Governor Mbah’s leadership style had made things easier for the party in the state.

He assured the continued support of the party to the realisation  of the second tenure of President Bola Tinubu, stressing that Enugu State had embraced his renewed hope agenda as the best for the country.
