Leaders of Alike Community in Obowo Local Council of Imo State have pledged to support the state government led by Hope Uzodimma in areas of security, provision of social amenities and uniting the people for common good.

In a statement received by The Guardian, yesterday, the Eze-elect of Alike, Chief Emma Obasi, and the new President-General of Alike Development Union Federated (ADUF), Chief Clifford Ibekwe, flayed insecurity in the country, which, according to them, has retarded development and general well-being of citizens.

Reiterating the need for collaborative support and peaceful co-existence among members of the community, they assured governor of their commitment to policies and programmes that would uplift the general well-being of the people.

They also promised to engage the indigenes, especially the youth, on viable enterprises and skills acquisition programmes to enhance their socio-economic lives.

Ibekwe was elected, recently, alongside Innocent Ahananye (General Secretary), Chief Cosmas Iroh (Publicity Secretary) and Ben Egeonu (Treasurer) to pilot the affairs of ADUF.

After the ballot, Ibekwe said: “Today, we have been elected to pilot the affairs of the Alike Development Union Federated (ADUF), and we have the mandate to partner all for the overall development and insecurity in our community and the state at large.

“The people have great confidence in us to deliver to their expectations and we have assured them that we will not disappoint them. We will try to consolidate on the achievements of our predecessors, while also doing our best to fulfil all our promises and responsibilities to the people. These we are out to achieve by the special grace of God.”

While commending the state government in her efforts to ensure even development of the state, the community leaders pledged to also try to contribute their quota for the overall well-being of the people.
