Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, has disclosed that work would soon begin on the Bakassi Deep Seaport.

He said he had received the concept design for the construction from China Harbour Engineering Company.

Ayade spoke yesterday during a presentation by a team of Chinese engineers led by Mr. Jason Wang.

He said: “It presents us the great opportunity in the history of our state as we forge ahead in the process of actualisation of the Bakassi Deep Seaport.

“The port is viable, the characteristics are hydraulics and all the studies, even the barometric and geotechnical has been completed.”

He explained that the design complex has been finalised, adding that once government gives the approval, all the detailed designs would be ready and construction will start in next dry season.

“This project naturally means that the government and the people of Cross River State are taking their Atlantic coast to northern Nigerian.

“This is by taking the Ocean 275 kilometers into the hinterland of Nigeria, bringing it to the very corridor of Nassarawa State,” he said.
