The 20-year-old marriage between a 50-year-old businessman, Nurudeen Adebayo and his wife, Yewande, has been dissolved by the President of Igando Customary Court.

The 20-year-old marriage between a 50-year-old businessman, Nurudeen Adebayo and his wife, Yewande, has been dissolved by the President of Igando Customary Court.

The Court President, Mr. Adeniyi Koledoye dissolved the marriage, following allegation of threat to life by the petitioner, Adebayo.

While delivering judgment, the president of the court held that it was proper for both parties to go their separate ways. He added that since both parties consented to the dissolution of the marriage, the court had no choice than to dissolve the marriage.

Consequently, the court pronounced the marriage between the couple dissolved over irreconcilable differences.

The court ordered the husband to take care of the children’s education and general welfare, while the estranged wife should take custody of the second, third and fourth child, with Adebayo paying N20, 000 monthly for their feeding. He noted that the first child is above 18 and so at liberty to choose where to stay.

Koledoye ordered Nurudeen to pay a severance package of N200, 000 to Yewande and another N250, 000 for her accommodation. Earlier, in his testimony, Adebayo told the court that his wife ridiculed him among his immediate and extended families. He claimed his wife brought policemen to his house to beat him up.

Yewande in her response, while agreeing to the dissolution of the marriage, accused her husband of failing to fulfil the promises he made to her before she agreed to marry him.
