Court jails man four months for attempt to vandalise Lagos bridge
The Special Offences Court sitting in Oshodi, Lagos State, has sentenced a 31-year-old man, David Olamilekan, to four months imprisonment for attempting to vandalise the Jibowu Bridge.
Olamilekan was apprehended on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, by the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI). He was promptly arraigned before the court, found guilty and handed the sentence.
The Corps Marshal of LAGESC, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (rtd), described the incident as a warning to those intent on destroying public property. He said the government’s commitment to protecting infrastructure and ensuring the safety of its citizens remains steadfast.
Cole reiterated the agency’sdedication to upholding the THEMES+ agenda of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, which aims to make Lagos safer, cleaner, and conducive for business. He also warned against environmental infractions such as indiscriminate dumping of refuse, illegal structures on road setbacks, and failure to secure valid waste collection contracts.
The Corps Marshal further urged residents to desist from patronising scavengers suspected of vandalising public property, stressing that defaulters of environmental laws would face decisive action.
