Court remands cattle rearer for allegedly kidnapping a Bolt driver
A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, on Wednesday ordered that a 35-year-old cattle rearer, Adamu Idris, be held in the Kuje correctional centre for allegedly kidnapping a Bolt driver.
The police charged Idris, with two counts of kidnapping.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Justice Aliyu Shafa ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter until June 20 for hearing.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Okokon Udo, told the court that the defendant and others at large on September 13, 2023, in Galadimawa, Abuja, conspired and kidnapped Siman Yakubu, a bolt driver of Tungamaje village, FCT.
He said that the defendant and his gang demanded N100 million as ransom.
The police said that the defendant eventually collected N110,000.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 274 of the Penal Code.
