The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre) has urged the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate alleged mismanagement of N183.9 billion of COVID-19 Intervention funds between 2020 and 2022 by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Its chairman, Olanrewaju Suraju, in a letter addressed to the boss of the anti-graft agency, Ola Olukoyede, said the demand was a follow-up to Nyampa Dauda Zakari’s call for an investigation during a plenary of the House of Representatives on October 17 this year.

The correspondence underlined that the allegations, if proven true, yet not investigated, would not only constitute a financial breach, but also tarnish the country’s reputation at the international stage.

HEDA maintained that a swift and thorough investigation was crucial not only for remedying wrongdoing, but also for safeguarding the nation’s standing in the global community.

“This is capable of making the country lose its integrity and reputation in the international space. Hence, the timely submission of this petition to enable the commission to diligently investigate, prosecute and remedy the country’s reputation before the international community,” the group added.
