Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), yesterday, alleged it has intercepted a plan by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to carry out digital vote buying.

CUPP said: “The plot on digital vote buying, termed ‘Operation Wire-Wire’, will result in the harvesting of names, account numbers, Voter Identification Numbers and Bank Verification Numbers of citizens, arranged in tables for each polling unit, with understanding that money will be sent to persons by electronic means to purchase their votes.”

The coalition claimed agents of the ruling party nationwide have harvested bank details of over 10 million voters in the plot allegedly designed soon after the Central Bank of Nigeria announced policy to redesign the naira.

At a press conference by the spokesman of CUPP, Ikenga Ugochinyere, it was alleged that the plot targets 22 states of the federation.

CUPP called on banks and security agencies to identify illegal transactions and report the same for prosecution.
