The body of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari arrived in Katsina State on Tuesday morning, as family members, relatives, and communities began offering prayers and paying final respects ahead of his burial.
A military honour guard composed of senior officers accompanied the flag-draped casket upon arrival at the Umar Musa Yaradua Airport in Katsina.
The former president’s remains had been flown from London, United Kingdom, where he died on July 13 at the age of 82 after a brief illness.
At his hometown, the atmosphere was sombre as relatives and members of the public gathered to pray for the repose of Buhari’s soul.
Among those mourning was his daughter, Noor Buhari, who posted an emotional tribute on her Instagram story, reflecting on her loss and the plans they would no longer share.
“Daddy, I’m heartbroken that we won’t get to share the moments and experiences I had planned for us,” she wrote. “I pray that you’re granted the highest place in Jannah, and your soul rests in eternal peace.”
