The Delta Economic Summit Group (DESG) has disclosed that it will recognise and honour some heroes for their humanitarian activities to contain the COVID-19 pandemic during the year.

The Delta Economic Summit Group (DESG) has disclosed that it will recognise and honour some heroes for their humanitarian activities to contain the COVID-19 pandemic during the year.

Director-General of DESG, Chukwuka Monye, said in Asaba yesterday that in a bid to cushion the negative impacts of the pandemic including loss of income, hunger, and health challenges, some individuals took extraordinary steps to contribute significantly to their communities in Delta State.

Monye told The Guardian that In line with its strategic objective to contribute to the socio-economic development of the state, DESG would recognise and celebrate what he described as “exceptional individuals, groups or organisations at the 2020 Unsung Heroes Award.”

“In previous years, Delta State Unsung Heroes have been recognised for various significant impacts such as women empowerment, agricultural development, social advocacy, free healthcare, and leadership training. Considering how successful and rewarding the 2019 edition was, this year’s event promises to be better.

“At the 2019 edition, a representative of The Paracletan Orphanage Home narrated how one of the nominees for last year, Rev. Mother Elechukwu Ifechikwuru, picked her up at the age of four and took care of her and others at the orphanage. She said if there were more people like her in the world, the world would be a wonderful place,” he stated.

He said the 2020 Unsung Heroes Awards would hold on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at the Ibori Golf Country Club, Asaba together with the AGCare Charity Golf Tournament Award Ceremony.

As DESG supports the State in recovering from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, Monye further said: “The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world as we know it and those who have gone above and beyond to help their fellow humans during these trying times should be recognised and appreciated and that is what the 2020 Unsung Heroes Awards aims to achieve.”

“We look forward to collectively celebrating the excellence in service for those who have played their parts in supporting the underprivileged in Delta State.”
