Flood victims in Delta State, yesterday, stormed Government House, Asaba, protesting over non-payment of promised compensation.

They expressed doubt on the credibility of the Finance Commissioner, Mr. Fidelis Tilije, who said the state government had released part of the N14.7 billion 13 per cent derivation funds for the flood victims.

They barricaded the entrance to the Government House for hours and issued 14 days ultimatum to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to pay them compensation.

They condemned alleged fraudulent manner government officials paid compensation to flood victims at Oleh.

The protesters warned that failure to adhere to the ultimatum, they would return to Government House for what they called “mother of all protests”.

The Guardian gathered the flood victims had, on Monday, protested at Isoko South Secretariat, Oleh to register their grievances, but nobody listened to them.

Addressing the protesters, the Chief Economic Adviser to the state Governor, Kingsley Emu, appealed to them to remain calm and promised to take their matter to the state governor for immediate action.
