Delta State House of Assembly Speaker Sheriff Oborevwori and his deputy, Christopher Ochor Ochor, have congratulated Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on his emergence as Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Dennis Out, the speaker described governor’s new responsibility as a welcome development, adding that the Delta chief executive had always delivered on given assignments hence the confidence reposed in him by his colleagues.Oborevwori said the news never came to him as a surprise because “our Okowa’ is tested and trusted.”

According to him; “our governor has always delivered on given assignment hence the confidence his colleagues have on him and I know that the governor will pilot their affairs to the admiration of all and sundry.”He therefore called on members of the forum, “to extend the same cooperation enjoyed by the former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, to their new chairman. It is my fervent prayer that God should give him the wisdom to run the affairs of the forum, so that collectively they can tackle challenges facing the oil-rich Niger Delta region.”

In own statement issued by his Press Secretary, Emmanuel Enebeli, Ochor stated that Okowa’s election “will help to bring unity among the governors of the region, which will further attract economic and political integration of the states.”

He noted; “The choice of the state governor was not a mistake, as he has in several occasions stepped in to mediate and bring unity among members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the country and had always preached peace among communities in Delta State.”

The deputy speaker also stated that with the governor’s “vast experience in governance and politics, which he will bring to bear among his colleagues, it is expected that the noticed fragmentation among the states of South South will be cemented, especially with daily security threat in the country.”He pointed out that one of the skills of Governor Okowa is his team leadership quality, which is a key factor in any organisation.
