The state’s Police Commissioner, Mr. Ari Mohammed Alli, who stated this at a briefing in Asaba, yesterday, disclosed that “three armed men suspected to be members of IPOB, engaged the team in a fierce gun duel during which one of the hoodlums was neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot injuries”.

Alli said the suspects, who were armed to the teeth, attacked the police at about 0735hrs, while an AK47 rifle with breech no 2534896 and six rounds of 7.62MM ammunition was recovered from them.

He added that the police are hunting for the fleeing members of the gang.

Alli also said five suspected armed robbers were reportedly killed after a gun duel with police officers attached to “B” Division in Warri.

The suspects, according to him, sustained gunshot injuries and died before getting to the hospital.

He stressed that two locally made cut-to-size single barrel guns, three rounds of expended cartridges, three rounds of live cartridges and one dagger were recovered from the suspects.

Similarly, Mr. Alli said while the police Aberdeen team were patrolling along lower Erejuwa Street Warri, they received a distress call that a suspected gang of armed robbers were terrorising Igbudu market/old welfare.

“The team acting on this information, swiftly moved to the scene, where the hoodlums on sighting the police engaged them in a gun duel, during which five of the hoodlums sustained serious gunshot injuries, but later died before getting to the hospital,” he added.
