Delta targets global investments at summit

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori

The Delta State Government has intensified efforts to position the state as one of Nigeria’s leading investment destinations, announcing that policymakers, prospective investors from China and Brazil, and other global business leaders will participate in the 2026 Delta State Economic and Investment Summit scheduled to hold from August 3 to August 5 in Asaba.

The summit, themed “Harnessing Our Strengths, Unlocking Our Potential,” is expected to showcase the state’s vast investment opportunities in the blue economy, agriculture, creative industry, housing, hospitality, oil and gas, and other strategic sectors aimed at driving economic growth and job creation.

Addressing journalists in Asaba yesterday, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, said the event reflects Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to transforming Delta into a preferred destination for both local and international investment under the administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda.

Aniagwu disclosed that the summit has already attracted significant support and sponsorship from corporate organisations and development partners, a development he attributed to growing confidence in the state’s governance, infrastructure development and investment-friendly policies.

According to him, Vice President Kashim Shettima will officially declare the summit open, while World Trade Organisation Director-General, Prof. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, will deliver the keynote address. Renowned Kenyan scholar and governance expert, Prof. Patrick Lumumba, is also expected to deliver a special lecture alongside other prominent national and international speakers.

The commissioner said the Oborevwori administration has deliberately invested in critical infrastructure, improved road networks, enhanced security and strengthened human capital development through the state’s tertiary institutions, creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.

He explained that the next phase of the administration’s economic strategy is to attract investors capable of establishing industries, expanding commercial activities and creating sustainable employment opportunities for Delta residents.
