According to him, government was highly interested in the training of professionals and ensuring that high academic standards in the university were maintained and benchmarks were achieved in the training of nurses and midwives in the institution.
He stated this when an accreditation team from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Abuja, paid a courtesy call at Government House, Yenagoa.
Represented by his deputy, Gboribiogha John Jonah, he also stated and reassured the accreditation team that they would support the sponsorship of the internship programme for nurses and midwives as it was already doing with other programmes in the medical profession.
Thanking the state government for its support, spokesperson, Mary Mgbekaen, said there was need to do more, including assisting nursing graduates in undergoing internship by way of budgetary provisions for their salaries in order to boost their clinical practice like other professionals in the medical field.
She also highlighted the need for better equipment in order to increase the number of in-takes, with a view to increasing the manpower in the health care system in the state and eliminate quacks in the health sector.
