Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state, has urged the people of Boi, a community in Bogoro Local Government Area of the state, to be wary of ‘opportunistic politicians’ who tried to divide the masses and the government because of religious differences.

The governor made the call on Monday, in Boi, while inspecting the construction of an 11.6-kilometre road recently embarked upon by the state government in the area.

Mohammed, who expressed satisfaction with members of his administration representing the people of the area, also tasked the community to respect constituted authority.

“We want to tell you we are happy with all your representatives in our government, they are doing very well and they are always telling us about you.

“I appreciate all of you in this community so much, I am one of you and I respect you. I want you to respect constituted authority and to open your eyes. Shine your eyes because there are some infiltrations of people that are not good.

“You are the source of security because security should be community-based and you should not allow opportunistic politicians to come and divide us because of religion, tribe and so on. We are all one by the grace of God,” Mohammed said.

Also speaking, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim, the state Commissioner for Works and Transport said the road was awarded for N2.9bn, adding that 30 per cent of the contract agreement had already been paid to the contractor.

Ibrahim, also revealed that the road, which was awarded in December, 2020, included construction of drainages, culverts and bridges, among others.

“This road was awarded or procured just two months ago and you can now see the level of seriousness and concern of the governor.

“It is a contract worth N2.9billion naira with bridges, culverts, drainages and so on. The contractor had been paid 30 per cent of the contract agreement and he had already made six kilometers clearance,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the contractual agreement of the road project stated completion within 24 months.
