Easter: Niger gov, cleric preach peace, charity

Chairman of North Central Governors Forum (NCGF), Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State, has congratulated Christians in the state and beyond as they celebrate Easter.

A statement signed by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mrs. Mary Berje, noted Easter as a significant celebration observed by Christians to reflect on the love and sacrifice exemplified by Jesus, the author of Christianity.

He enjoined Christians to celebrate Easter solemnly and exhibit love, selflessness, forgiveness, perseverance, as well as sacrifice, which are the hallmarks of the celebration.

The governor also urged Christians to use the period to pray for lasting peace and security in the state in particular and the country in general.

His words: “I congratulate you on the celebration of Easter. As you celebrate, it is important that you reflect on the virtues of Jesus Christ, who is the reason for the season, and practise them.

“In your celebration, pray for sustainable peace and tranquility in the state and the country at large. Pray also for a successful transition to the next administration.”

While wishing the faithful a hitch-free celebration, the governor assured residents of his commitment to effective service delivery till the end of his tenure.

ALSO, Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State and Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, Dr. Bulu Yohanna, in his Easter message, enjoined Christians in the country to be hopeful, steadfast and prayerful to overcome the challenges bedeviling the country.

He said: “The death and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ, brings about hope that our state and the nation will be great again.”

Yohanna prayed God to fast-track the resurrection of the state and Nigeria from all challenges, so that everyone would be carried along the path of progress and development for the pursuit of the common good.

The cleric lauded leaders of various churches, blocs, local council coordinators and all Christians faithful in the state to use the Easter celebration to express their love and concern to the less privileged in the society by gifting the needy, widows, orphans and displaced person’s in the camps.
