Ebonyi govt gets licence to operate airline

Governor Francis Nwifuru

Ebonyi State Commissioner for Aviation and Transport Technology, Ngozi Obichukwu, on Monday said the Governor Francis Nwifuru-led administration has secured a licence to operate its own airline, noting that its aircraft are real and available.

Briefing journalists after the departure of the 90 scholarship awardees to Europe at the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, Onueke, Ebonyi State, Obichukwu added that the governor’s efforts in the last three years have shifted Ebonyi from that position of illiteracy, downtroddenness, and backwardness, adding that the state is now moving even further than some other states created before it.

Obichukwu said: “My joy goes to the fact that the governor is a humanitarian and empathy-filled leader. Somebody said that if you are developing anything and you have not developed a human being, even those things you develop will crumble.”

She noted that Nwifuru is particularly focused on human development, and the government is happy because when these people go abroad to improve themselves, Ebonyi will also be better off. She stressed that before now, Ebonyians were called the backward people.

She added: “Aviation is not a ministry of land transport. It is practically safety inclined. And as we are doing here, we want to ensure that the aviation or the airport is safe and secure.”
