The kidnapped chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 9, Orhionmwon Local Council of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Aigbogun, yesterday escaped from his abductors’ den.

The kidnappers, suspected to be herdsmen, were said to have demanded N5 million ransom from his family after Aigbogun was abducted on his way back to his village from his farm in Ologbo-nugu on Monday evening.

Edo State Publicity Secretary for APC, Peter Uwadiae, who confirmed his escape yesterday morning, said that he had since been reunited with his family.

“I can confirm to you that he has escaped from the kidnappers’ den. I don’t know how he did it, but I must commend him for his bravery. The APC family in the state is happy about this. He is now with the family,” he added.

SIMILARLY, a bread seller, Sikiru Ayinde, who was kidnapped on Monday by yet-to-be identified kidnappers in Osun State was yesterday released.

Ayinde, popularly known as Gettin, was abducted by gunmen, while travelling to Ifewara in his car to supply bread to his customers.

The Guardian learnt that the victim was abducted at about 4:00a.m. at the Expressway enroute Iwaraja in the state.

The abductors were said to have sent message to Ayinde’s community, insisting on collecting N5 million as ransom before the victim would be freed.

The community was said to have beaten the ransom down to N150,000,00. A source noted that the community had gathered the fund to get the victim released.

Confirming the vicitm’s release yesterday, the Public Relations Officer of the state police Command, Yemisi Opalola, said Ayinde was released on Tuesday at about 11:30p.m., adding that he has been admitted in a hospital for treatment.

“One Sikiru Ayinde, who was kidnapped on July 18, while going to distribute bread to his customers in Ifewara area has been released on July 19 at about 2130hrs. He has gone for treatment at undisclosed hospital,” the PPRO said.
