Gov warns new commissioners, others against corruption
Edo State House of Assembly Service Commission has invited the Clerk of the Assembly, Audu Omogbai, for questioning over alleged age falsification. Meanwhile, Governor Monday Okpebholo has sworn in 19 commissioners, warning them against corruption and actions that could undermine the integrity of his administration.
The Clerk’s invitation followed a petition by some concerned staff of the Assembly, who alleged that Omogbai falsified his age to remain in service. They said the Clerk’s initial appointment dated back to 1993 and that he had exceeded the mandatory 30 years of service.
The petitioners also alleged that the Clerk surpassed the mandatory retirement age of 60 and was obstructing the investigation. The petition reads, “The Clerk has allegedly withheld official records, hindering investigations into these matters.
“We humbly request your intervention to investigate these allegations and take appropriate actions to maintain integrity and adherence to regulations within the Edo State House of Assembly.”Omogbai, who was asked to appear before a three-man ad hoc committee, could not be reached for comments at press time.
GOVERNOR Okpebholo, who also swore in chairmen and members of boards of some commissions yesterday, said all appointments were made strictly on merit, reminding the new appointees that their roles were not rewards but a call to serve Edo people.
He reiterated that his administration’s focus remained on service delivery and tangible results, not propaganda, urging the commissioners and board members to perform their duties diligently and with dedication.
Okpebholo charged the appointees to see their new positions as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the state’s development and warned them against corrupt tendencies.
“While I congratulate you on your deserved elevation, I must warn that your appointment is not for personal enrichment, but for service, sacrifice and better life for Edo people.
“This administration has zero tolerance for corruption. You are expected to display discipline, teamwork and a shared sense of purpose. I expect loyalty to the people of Edo. History will judge us not by our intentions, but by our actions,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Ebea Odianonsen thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in them and assured him of their full commitment to his administration’s vision.
