
The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Edo State, Mr. Nemi Iwo, has vowed to provide an enabling environment for a peaceful election as he met with the chairmen of political parties and their respective governorship candidates ahead of the September 21, 2024, election in the state.
The Commissioner, who welcomed the politicians to the meeting, said the interface was geared towards ensuring a peaceful election.
Iwo reassured the gathering that the police and sister security agencies will ensure that all stakeholders, including electoral materials, are protected.
He appealed to them, as stakeholders in the electoral process, to prevail on their supporters to shun all forms of violence during the poll.
This was contained in a press statement issued on Saturday by the police spokesman in the state, SP Moses Joel Yamu.
The statement noted that the police boss assured adequate security to ensure that people can go out to exercise their franchise without fear of harassment or any form of intimidation.
It also said the CP stressed that the command has commenced mopping up illegal arms and ammunition while soliciting information that will assist the police in providing an enabling environment for the election.
