Edo State Government has disclosed it recorded one death of an unvaccinated person and intensified the second dose of COVID-19 vaccines in the 18 councils, as part of efforts to achieve immunity against the virus and contain the third wave of the pandemic.

Head of the State’s COVID-19 Case Management, Dr. Osagie Ebomwonyi, disclosed this during the daily virtual meeting of the state COVID-19 taskforce, presided over by Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Ebomwonyi urged those who have not been vaccinated to get inoculated to remain healthy and protected against the deadly virus.

In the last 24 hours, Edo State collected 117 samples and recorded 18 new COVID-19 cases, 101 discharges, 361 active cases and death of an unvaccinated 87-year-old woman at the Irrua Specialist Hospital (ISTH) and with a test positivity rate of 15.4 per cent.

“We have now collected 18,713 samples and confirmed 1,629 cases, 1,177 recoveries and 91 deaths since the outbreak of the third wave of the pandemic in the state,” he said.
