Ekiti to prosecute parents who deny children education

The Ekiti State Government has said that parents who keep their wards out of school risk being prosecuted, saying the state’s Child’s Right law provides for all children to access education.

Ekiti State government last week commenced school enrolment drive aimed at ensuring that all school-age children register for the forthcoming 2019/2020 academic session.

Speaking in Eporo, Emure-Ekiti during the sensitisation programme, Governor Kayode Fayemi, who urged parents and guardians to key into his administration’s free education programme, said education was not only free, but compulsory in Ekiti.

He added that it is an abuse of child’s right for parents or guardians to deny school-age children the opportunity to get education.
