The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EkoDisCo) has urged community stakeholders to work collectively to combat energy theft and infrastructure vandalism, warning that both acts continue to undermine electricity supply and public safety across Lagos.
The appeal was made during a customer engagement forum in the Agbara District, which gathered representatives from Agbara, Aiyetoro, Aradagun, Badagry, Igborosun, and Oko-Afo communities. The event focused on improving service delivery, safety awareness, and tackling illegal power connections.
Speaking on behalf of Acting CEO, Rekhiat Momoh, Iyiola Ezichi, Head of Customer Experience, said customer feedback remains essential to the company’s operations. “Listening to our customers helps us provide better service and address real concerns,” she said.
EkoDisCo officials also stressed the dangers of energy theft, calling it a criminal offence that drives up costs for honest consumers. Ezichi warned that offenders would face prosecution and urged residents to report illegal connections. “When energy is stolen and not reported, everyone pays the price,” she added.
Community leaders welcomed the engagement. Engr. Omokaro Emmanuel of the Agbara Estate Association described the meeting as a positive step, while Festus Eweka, Chairman of the Customer Consultative Forum, noted improved responsiveness from EkoDisCo officials in resolving local issues.
EkoDisCo further announced ongoing infrastructure upgrades in the district, including the commissioning of a 100MVA transformer, a new 11kV feeder line from Ojo, and plans for an injection substation near Federal Government College. According to Engr. Madukife Obianuju, these projects will boost capacity and reduce service interruptions for both residential and industrial customers.
The company reiterated its commitment to community safety, advising residents to use only certified electrical materials, hire qualified electricians, and avoid building structures beneath power lines.
EkoDisCo said it would continue proactive community engagement to strengthen public cooperation, reduce losses, and enhance electricity reliability across Lagos.
