The Lagos State Government basic education reform programme, EKOEXCEL, has been lauded for its achievement in promoting quality education. The spotlight was on the methodology behind the programme, as NewGlobe, the technical partner driving EKOEXCEL, in collaboration with the Lagos State Government, clinched the 2024 Titans of Tech Awards Pan African Digital Learning Platform. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration has prioritised education reform, and EKOEXCEL stands as a testament to this commitment.

Through a strategic partnership with NewGlobe, the programme has harnessed technology and data to revolutionise teaching and learning. EKOEXCEL’s success underscores the power of public-private collaboration in driving educational advancement.

Now in its fifth year of implementation, EKOEXCEL has demonstrated remarkable results, including significant improvements in pupils’ performance across various academic metrics. The programme has successfully bridged the gap between Lagos State pupils and their peers in upper-middle-income countries, a feat attributed to its data-driven approach and the effective deployment of technology.

Also, the cornerstone of EKOEXCEL’s success is the innovative Situation Room, a state-of-the-art control centre built by NewGlobe. This real-time school monitoring hub provides a comprehensive overview of all 1,013 primary schools under the programme. Equipped with a digital dashboard accessible to key education stakeholders, the Situation Room enables data-driven decision-making and facilitates rapid response to challenges.

The establishment of the Situation Room is a testament to Lagos State Government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in education. As the first of its kind in Nigeria, it showcases the potential of technology to transform education delivery and management.
