Elumelu, others to bag honorary degrees

Bayero university Kano is set to honour philanthropist and entrepreneur, Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu and the first female Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Folake Solanke with honorary doctorate degrees for their immense contributions to human development.

Also, a blind student, Abdullahi Umar Abdullahi, from special education department graduated with second class upper.

While Elumelu will be conferred with doctor of business administration (DBA) honoris causa, Solanke will bag doctor of Laws (LLD) honoris causa. 

Vice Chancellor, Bayero University, Muhammad Yahuza Bello stated this yesterday at the university’s 35th pre-convocation media briefing held at the senate chambers.

Among other personalities that will be honored during the convocation ceremony slated between Monday 10th and Saturday 15th, June, 2019, are former senator representing Kano North, Bello Hayatu Gwarzo for doctor of Laws honoris causa and Abdulkadir Dangambo who will be conferred with emeritus professorship.

Bello, who revealed the human development and meritorious service of the awardees as rationale considered before the selection, restated that BUK’s honorary degrees was not for sale. He stressed that a total number of 9,571 graduands will be awarded first degrees, higher degrees and postgraduate diplomas. 6,174 students will be conferred with first degrees, of which 105 of them earned first class.
