The Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari has denied that he was attacked in his palace on Sunday, at the annual traditional programme held in Ilorin. .

National Secretary of the Shehu Alimi Foundation for Peace and Development, Ilorin, Abdulazeez Arowona, yesterday told journalists that the rumoured attack, “is not only condemnable but unwarranted.”

It was alleged that the attack took place when an Islamic preacher spoke against the interest of workers, which prompted a spontaneous reaction and subsequent attack with stones and sachets of water.

But the palace had since denied the claim, saying the rowdy scene was caused by a sudden disconnection of a live electric cable.

Arowona, who is also the spokesman for the Emir said that Sulu-Gambari is an advocate of peaceful co-existence and promotion of harmonious working relationship among the entire citizenry.

He cautioned the rumour mongers to desist from acts capable of escalating tension in the state, adding that only mutual understanding, dedication and steadfastness could engender the desired growth and development.
