National Association of Seadogs (NAS), also known as Pyrates Confraternity, has urged Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Federal Government to seize the opportunity of the 2023 general election to entrench democracy in the country, advising that it should be what President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration bequeaths Nigerians.

The association made the call at the weekend in Port Harcourt, Rivers State during the commemoration of United Nations World Democracy Day.

Spokesperson for Barrakuda X Deck, Port Harcourt Zone 2, Ejiro Akudihor, who noted that education and freedom of speech are hallmarks of every society to sustain a democratic system, advised the government to emphasise voter education and to be tolerant.

Akudihor added that after 62 years of Nigeria’s independence and surviving a civil war, it was important that the government respects the decision of the citizens in the electoral process.

He further stressed that Nigeria’s democracy after 23 years will be put to test again in the 2023 general elections in Nigeria and urged citizens to vote their conscience, and evaluate all contestants on competence and value to the system.
