Enugu APC stakeholders seek resolution of leadership crisis
Arewa coalition backs Okorocha for 2023 presidential ticket
Some stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu West Senatorial District, yesterday, called for the resolution of the leadership crisis in the state chapter of the party.
Party members made the call in a communiqué released at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting yesterday in Oji River in the zone comprising Aninri, Awgu, Ezeagu, Oji River and Udi council areas of the state.
The communiqué was jointly signed by Linus Achiebe (Aninri), Chiedozie Nwafor (Awgu), Joe Mmamel (Ezeagu), Vin-Marthins Ilo (Oji River) and Mrs. Maureen Anosike (Udi), among others.
It stated that the meeting was necessitated by the purported APC state congress of October 16, 2021.
The Guardian recall that the APC had on held its national nationwide congress on the said date, during which one Ugochukwu Agballa was allegedly elected by a faction of the party, while Alphonsus Ude emerged from another faction at the secretariat of the party.
However, the communiqué described the congress where Agballa emerged as “a sham and not in line with the constitution of the party.”
It described the exercise as the handwork of those who wish to destroy the party in the state, adding that the party’s stakeholders, had pursuant to Article 20 (i) (a) of the APC Constitution agreed on zoning and emergence of consensus candidates at the state congress.
It stated that having zoned the chairmanship position to Enugu West Senatorial District, the position was further micro-zoned to Aninri-Awgu-Oji-River Federal Constituency.
BESIDES, ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Coalition for Arewa APC Support and Civil Society Groups, have backed former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha for APC presidential ticket.
The coalition, which mobilised membership from Kano, Katsina, Jigawa and Sokoto states, declared Okorocha, who represents Imo West Senatorial District as the only candidate that could be entrusted with the country’s presidency.
The support for Okorocha followed agitations for a southern presidential candidate in the APC.
Although, there was no official declaration from APC to zone the presidential ticket to the south, train of campaign for several southern candidates have already commenced.
Drumming support for the former Imo State Governor at a public lecture and endorsement forum organised by the Arewa formations on Wednesday, Coordinator of the groups, Abubakar Sadiq Yusuf, said Okorocha remained a unifying factor, who has established credible presence in North than any other southern aspirant in the APC.
