The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youths in Enugu West Senatorial Zone in Enugu State have denied involvement in recent attacks on meetings of opposition political parties in the area.

Two meetings of the Labour Party (LP) held in Aninri and Awgu councils of the zone last week were attacked by hoodlums suspected to have been sponsored by political opponents.

While many members sustained serious injuries, canopies, chairs and vehicles belonging to them were destroyed by the masked attackers, who also recorded and circulated the act.

Reacting to accusations and rumours that PDP youths in the area may have a hand in the attacks, the youths, under the auspices of Concerned Democratic Youths, Enugu West, denied being involved in the act, even as it urged youths in the area to steer clear of anything that could dent their image.

Extending heartfelt empathy to those affected by the attacks, the youths, in a statement by their leader, Stanley Ezediuto, yesterday, stated that their activities revolve only around the PDP, stressing that they have no interest in other political parties and their activities.

The PDP youth group recalled that its members had, last Saturday, during a meeting of the party’s Enugu West Senatorial zone protested “against mendacious behaviour of stakeholders of the PDP in the zone.”

They stressed that the infiltration of protest by agents of stakeholders disrupted the meeting.

“We only protested against corruption among stakeholders and party leaders. We are a non-violent group with the drive to see that things work out the right way in the zone ahead of the 2023 general elections in the state. We protested against the senseless diversion of money meant for party members in the zone by the Vice Chairman of PDP in Enugu West, Okey Ozoani, and his flurry of acolytes, who have normalised anti-party activities, laxity and deliberate effort at ensuring that the party is defeated at the polls.”
