The rehabilitation measure by Enugu State government at the abandoned 9th Mile Crash Programme Water Supply, in Udi Council, may have paid off, as the facility now delivers 19 million litres of water in the state daily.
Over 40 years after it was abandoned, the water scheme has come to life, and is now delivering water into the Okwojo Ngwo reservoir. The water supply scheme, a network of 12 boreholes, was abandoned in 1982.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi had, last year, approved the rehabilitation contract of the scheme, awarded to Fordmarx Nigeria Limited, at the cost of N600 million to boost water supply in the state.
Managing Director of Fordmarx, Mr. Clifford Nnaji, told The Guardian, yesterday, at the site, that only eight, out of 12 boreholes were recovered, adding that each of the boreholes delivers 100 cubic meters of water per hour.
