‘Equip yourselves with latest information for technological advancement’

Registrars of polytechnics and colleges of technology in Nigeria have been urged to equip themselves with the latest information, knowledge and skills to ensure that they brace themselves to their responsibilities and assignments in an era of technological advancement for effectiveness and efficient administration of tertiary institutions.

Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, Chairman of governing Council, Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, made the call at the 69th regular meeting of the conference of registrars of polytechnics and colleges of technology in Nigeria, held at Deltthe institution in headquarters of Isoko North local government area.

He said: “I recognize and appreciate the place, roles and relevance of registrars in the system as the engine room of any tertiary institution and is the repository of records and rules regulating any tertiary institutions.”

As chief administrative officers of tertiary schools and secretaries to all statutory bodies, they play prominent roles in the smooth running of the affairs of the institutions, he stated.

Chief Funkekeme urged registrars and secretaries to ensure they discharge their duties diligently and promptly for the smooth running of polytechnics and colleges of technology with a view to proffering solutions to emerging problems and challenges in order to move the system to greater heights. He commended the executive and members of the conference for choosing the Ozoro polytechnic as the venue for the meeting.

The executive secretary, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) Dr. M.A. Kazuare, said the meeting was an opportunity for members to rub minds and share ideas on some of the issues affecting the subsector as well as to help the government to lift education, particularly technical and vocational learning.

He stressed that as chief administrative advisers, they must be embodiments of good governance that any rector can rely upon. He emphasized on imbibing the culture of probity and accountability in the administration of institutions as a global best practice.

He commended the rector of Ozoro, Dr. Jacob S. Oboreh and the registrar, Mr. Samuel .O. Onaibre, for hosting the meeting of the conference of registrars of polytechnics and colleges of technology.
