Kwara State former commissioner for works, Rotimi Ilyasu, has denied rumour that he was recently invited and grilled by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over abuse of office and general financial misappropriation while in office.
Reports in an online media (names withheld) recently went viral, saying the former commissioner was picked up by the EFCC for allegedly misplacing over N20 billion while in office.
Addressing the media yesterday, Ilyasu regretted the menace of unchecked online media that have put the conventional media organisations to undeserved task. He however fingered some undisclosed politicians as sponsoring what he described as campaign of calumny.
He stated: “I have never been invited or grilled by the EFCC.”
According to him, he served the state with the fear of not wanting to disappoint the youths and his family hence his diligence and dedication to office.
He said: “I tried my best not to disappoint the youths who I represented while in office; my family and entire constituency.”
He however recalled that the anti-graft agency once wrote his office for technical assistance while investigating some federal government projects in the state which his ministry afforded the agency.
Meanwhile, Ilyasu stated that he still enjoys the patronage of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
