Former President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Akpata, has formally joined the array of aspirants contesting for the Edo governorship on the Labour Party (LP) platform.

Akpata, who was at the LP State secretariat to formally declare his intention to run for governorship position on the Labour Party (LP) platform, was accompanied by large supporters of youths.

Storming the Labour Party secretariat amid cheers, Akpata urged for support from the people and party leaders to clinch the party’s ticket ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

The lawyer turned politican who lamented that the people have been taken out of the equation in governance and politics, said that if given the opportunity to fly the flag of LP in the forthcoming election, he will change the narrative.

He said: “My interest is for the people of Edo State. And what I find out in politics and governance in Nigeria today is that the people have been taken out of the equation. Nobody care about the people.

“So, when I look around, the only party I find to be people-oriented and interested in the lots of our people is Labour Party. So I have come here to express my interest and to carry the people along.”

Akpata promised to take the Labour Party to greater heights in the event that he emerged as the candidate of LP in the primary.

The party’s leadership in Edo led by her state chairman, Kelly Ogbaloi, pledged to give all aspirants for the governorship race a level playing ground and urged him to remain resolute in his ambition to contest the gubernatorial election next year.
