A Telecom expert, Dr. Ifeanyi Adonu, has said that sustained investment in technology, improved infrastructure protection and greater public awareness would strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy and expand opportunities for young entrepreneurs.
He said vandalisation of telecommunications facilities was a major threat to network stability, noting that damage to telecom masts often disrupts service and places additional pressure on existing infrastructure.
He added that technology and telecommunications remain critical drivers of business growth and job creation in Nigeria. He called for greater youth participation in the digital economy.
“This is an industry that will continue to define the future. We need to improve as the infrastructure continues to improve to enable it to serve the best interest of our people,” he said.
Adonu, the Managing Director of S.Mobile Net Zone Limited, while highlighting progress in the telecom sector, acknowledged that businesses in the Southeast region still face several operational challenges, including infrastructure limitations and intense competition.
Adonu, who was recently honoured with Outstanding Entrepreneur Award by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Council, expressed appreciation for the recognition, describing the award as a privilege and encouragement to continue contributing to economic development through innovation and youth empowerment.
“I am very happy about this award. It is a privilege I do not take for granted. I dedicate it to God and see it as a motivation to continue doing more,” he said.
Adonu explained that his company, S. Mobile Net Zone Limited, operates as a major distribution partner of MTN Nigeria, handling airtime, data and other telecommunications products across the Southeast region.
According to him, the company has grown into one of the leading telecom distribution networks in the region, employing about 47 staff and supporting a broad network of partners and retailers.
He noted that the company recorded a significant milestone in 2024 when it emerged the top distributor of MTN products in Nigeria, a feat he attributed to innovative strategies and consistent customer engagement.
