Expert tasks pharmacists on professionalism

Medical expert and renowned pharmacist, Abimbola Adebakin, yesterday, charged pharmacists and other healthcare providers on professionalism.

Adebakin, the chief executive officer, of Advantage Health Africa, made the call at the Global Health Summit hosted by Igbinedion University, Okada in Edo State.

Adebakin also tasked pharmacists and students in the field of pharmacy to explore other areas of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in their service delivery.

The summit was organised by the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students (PANS).

The pharmacist said the role of a pharmacist was beyond curative care as the professionals were also expected to cover preventive, rehabilitative and palliative cares of patients.

Mrs Esther Itua, who represented the Director-General, National Agency for Foods and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), said pharmacists were required to take patients through the administration of medicine.

In his remark, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, Vice-Chancellor of Igbinedion University emphasised the critical role of pharmacists in the health sector.
