Health experts have advocated for a comprehensive approach to healthcare that promotes resilience and ensures that essential services are accessible to all. They also called for inclusive healthcare policies that uplift individuals and communities, focusing on well-being as a shared societal goal.

The experts spoke at the Project Smile Nigeria award ceremony organised by Smile360 in Lagos, where the Founder of Smile360 Dental Specialists, Dr Amy Shumbusho, stated the impact of accessible dental care to transform lives and build a future where everyone has a reason to smile. She said that healthcare should go beyond treatment to embody a deep commitment to the communities served.

Speaking on the book, “Beyond Dentistry,” which was launched on the sidelines of the event, Shumbusho said that the book aimed at encouraging professionals and patients alike to view healthcare beyond technical skills and embrace empathy and commitment that their work in healthcare enables.

A surgeon, Dr Julius Oni, who stressed the need for balance between health and wealth, noting that true wealth goes beyond finances to include time and physical well-being, said: “True wealth comprises not just financial resources but also time and health. Without these elements in balance, the concept of wealth is incomplete.”

On his part, Dr Bolaji Ogundare noted that it is critical to reshape perspectives on both healthcare and wealth.

Also speaking, Dr. Ekene Onu noted the importance of mental health for healthcare providers themselves, saying: “Happiness and well-being within our work give us the energy to conquer new challenges. In private practice, I found the creative freedom to mentor young dentists and engage in impactful work.”
