Experts on Artificial Intelligence (AI) have called on the Nigerian government to regulate AI, Robotics and other emerging technologies.

They also called for responsible and ethical AI implementation and the need for safeguards in place to ensure transparency, fairness and accountability, while also prioritising the well-being and privacy of citizens.

Speaking at a policy dialogue in Abuja organised by the National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM), yesterday, Director General of the centre, Dr Olusola Odusanya, highlighted the benefits of technology to public service in Nigeria to include helping to streamline and improve the efficiency of government services, making government services more accessible to the public by providing automated information and assistance, as well as reducing corruption and improve transparency by providing data-driven insights and monitoring.

Vice Chancellor, Summit University, Kwara State, Prof. Abiodun Aibinu, and the Director General, National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr Halilu Shaba, called on Nigerians to leverage AI’s potential to create a more inclusive, efficient, and sustainable future for all.

In their separate submissions, resource persons, Professor of Technology Assistant Learning, Michael Ajibade, and management consultant, Chinedu Ogbeide, allayed fears of AI job displacement, stressing that those who understand the importance of digitalisation would not be out of jobs.
