It was a gloomy Easter in Kaduna as three luxury buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), belonging to Silver Transport Company, were destroyed in an early morning explosion at Mando Motor Park.
The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday while the vehicles were parked in preparation for interstate trips.
A manager with a logistics firm operating within the park, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the explosion happened when the buses were stationary.
He noted that the affected vehicles were newly acquired but expressed relief that no casualties were recorded.
The source added that the buses were powered by CNG, raising concerns about the safety of the technology.
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant agencies have since arrived at the scene to assess the situation and determine the cause of the explosion.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities of the motor park and the Kaduna State Government had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
“They are carrying out investigations to ascertain what caused the incident,” the source added.
“These vehicles are using CNG. We are not matured enough to use it,” he said.
“They were parked to board passengers this morning. We are thankful that no one was inside the vehicles when the explosion occurred,” he said.
