Extra judicial killings: Group urges IGP on reforms

Related

United Global Resolve For Peace (UGRFP) has urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu to urgently put measures in place to reform and re-train its officers, especially the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) over extra judicial killings.

The Group’s Executive Director, Shalom Olaseni said the Police have no right to decide who lives or dies, noting that the operational manual of the Nigeria Police and the Police Act directs that the ultimate point of any arrest is to restrain and detain, not restrain and execute.

“There must be a total overhaul of the mentality of the average policeman, through consistent reformatory training and accountability measures that respect neither rank nor file.”
