Fani-Kayode endorses Orji Kalu, Musa as Senate president, deputy
Former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has endorsed Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as Senate president and Sani Musa as deputy Senate president.
Fani-Kayode on Tuesday said Orji Kalu is the best candidate for the Senate presidency.
“Senator Orji Kalu and Senator Sani Musa are both very close to me and I am proud to call them my brothers,” Fani-Kayode said.
“I believe that the Nigerian Senate would be safe hands in their hands as Senate President and Deputy Senate President.
“Their loyalty to our great party the APC and to our leader and President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is unambiguous, total and second to none and they are both seasoned, brilliant, courageous, tough, wise and experienced public officers.
“What an extraordinary combination they would make as Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively. This would be innovative and refreshing.”
FFK said under their leadership, the opposition parties would have sleepless nights, the Senate would be strong, bold and reliable, the All Progressives Congress (APC) would flourish and the Nigerian people would be the better for it.
“I wish them well in this race and they have not only my support but that of millions of other party leaders and supporters.”
Aspirants for Senate President include incumbent, Ahmed Lawan (Yobe, Northeast), Ali Ndume, (Borno, Northeast), Sani Musa, (Niger, Northcentral), Barau Jibbrin (Kano, Northwest), Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi (Southeast), Osita Izunaso (Imo, Southeast) and Godswill Akpabio (Akwa-Ibom, Southsouth).
Meanwhile, the APC is yet to declare its position on the election of the next Senate President and House of Representatives Speaker.
The three factors which are likely to influence zoning are religion, voting patterns, and the political base of aspirants, a party source said.
Nigeria’s 10th National Assembly will be inaugurated in the first week of June. Lawmakers and their political parties are already lobbying for the seats of Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives.
