Residents of EBJ/Spencer Quarters community of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos State, are lamenting the silence of the NRC’s management over the recent influx of state agents that have marked their homes for demolition.

For the past three weeks, residents have witnessed several markings, inscriptions as well as sketches on their buildings and around their quarters.

Chairman of the community, Mr. Magnus Ogbue, wonders why the NRC management could keep them in the dark over the purported demolition of their quarters without due notice and consultation as stakeholders. “We see this as the height of disrespect and absolute disregard to the entire community, and we feel seriously aggrieved.”

According to the secretary, Adekunle Akinrinade, tension is building in the community, which could affect the health and productivity of residents, who are serving and retired NRC workers. “We want to know our fate,” he said.
