The Federal Government (FG) has advised people in some specific areas near the river Benue and Niger to relocate due to possible flooding.
The FG issued this advice on Wednesday via a statement from the National Orientation Agency (NOA) which said flooding is expected in those areas after Cameroon said it will be opening the Lagodo dam.
“Flood alert! Federal Government of Nigeria warns of possible flooding along River Benue & Niger due to Cameroon opening dam. Take precautions,” NOA wrote.
It also advised people in the affected areas to take some preventive measures before the flooding starts.
“People in the affected areas must move to higher grounds and they should be vigilant at all times.”
The NOA also implored people near the river Benue and Niger to stay safe and tell others about the possible flooding.
