The Federal Government has declared Friday and Monday as holidays for Easter celebrations.

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, disclosed this in a statement signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Shuaib Begore, yesterday.

Aregbesola called on Christians to emulate the virtues of sacrifice, togetherness, forgiveness, kindness, love, peace, and patience that were attributes and practices of Jesus Christ, as exemplified by His ministry while on earth.

The minister also asked Christians and all Nigerians alike to use the occasion of this year’s Easter celebration to pray for an end to all security challenges in Nigeria.

The minister assured that the Federal Government is doing all necessary to ensure a peaceful government transition following the peaceful conduct of elections.

Aregbesola also enjoined all Christians at home and in the Diaspora to love their neighbours through acts of kindness and generosity of spirit, with the well-to-do sharing their substance with the less privileged around them.

He assured Nigerians that the nation is on the path to greatness and urged them to positively deploy their creative energy to realise it.

Meanwhile, the Senate on Wednesday adjourned the plenary till April 25, 2023, to allow lawmakers observe the Easter and Eid-el-Fitr holidays.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, made the announcement shortly before the end of the plenary in Abuja.

He said the break would enable lawmakers to participate in their various religious activities as well as take deserved rest.
