FG moves to mitigate disasters in private, public places
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, is leading an advocacy for measures to mitigate risks in the private and in public space.
She made the commitment at an event to mark the 2020 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction yesterday in Abuja.
According to her, the awareness centres on reducing threats of fire incidents in high-rise buildings, densely populated apartments and the workplace.
The minister added that the move was also to ensure that emergency evacuation plans were in place in addition to periodical fire exit drills.
Farouq called on Nigerians to relay the useful information for the benefit of all.
The theme of the event was “Disaster risk governance.”
The ministry, since its establishment on August 21, 2019, has been initiating policies and programmes to build resilience towards disaster risk reduction in Nigeria.
