FG opens quake, tremor centre in FCT
The Federal Government has commissioned an Earthquake, Tremor Monitoring and Command Control Centre in Abuja following the recent happenings in Abuja.
The Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Abubakar Bawa Bwari, said government had great interest in the safety of Nigerians.
He observed that the September and November 2018 incidents stirred a lot of anxiety in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), especially among residents of Mpape and Maitama.
The minister explained that the tremors had made it imperative for the installation of geo-scientific infrastructure to monitor and mitigate natural and anthropogenic hazards.
The consultant, Prof. Adepelumi Adekunle Abraham, said the equipment could check earth movement as far as Cameroun and other neighbouring nations.
