Mohammed, who lauded the choice of Egbetokun as IGP, said NPC’s meeting and confirmation process led to extensive deliberations concerning the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
He said the committee consists of Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam; National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu; Chairman of Police Service Commission, Solomon Arase, and Chairman of Nigerian Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq .
He explained: “The confirmation of the IGP prompted further discussions on the Nigeria Police Force and the President has formed a special committee to look at all the gaps in Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution with a view to bring harmony and synergy, technology and manpower to the NPF.”
Also speaking on confirmation of the IGP, Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, said NPC observed that no meaningful reforms had taken place in the police force since its creation in 1861.
He added: “The issue of funding also came up, and this committee will look at these issues that border on reforms.”
